Please take the following steps which will help prevent a crime. Vehicle Crime Prevention Advice Vehicle crime can happen anywhere, but there are simple steps residents can take to reduce the risk of becoming a victim. Protect Your Vehicle Always lock your vehicle, even when parked outside your home.Close all windows, sunroofs, and convertible roofs when leaving the vehicle unattended.Remove keys from the vehicle and never leave the engine running unattended.Use additional security devices such as steering wheel locks, pedal locks, or approved vehicle immobilisers.Keep vehicle software and security systems updated where applicable.Remove Valuables Do not leave valuables on display, including: - Mobile phones
- Laptops and tablets
- Sat-navs and accessories
- Handbags, wallets, and purses
- Tools and equipment
- Shopping bags and parcels
Take all valuables with you or lock them securely out of sight before reaching your destination.Secure Keys Keep vehicle keys away from doors, windows, and letterboxes.Consider using a signal-blocking pouch (Faraday pouch) for keyless entry vehicles.Never leave spare keys in or near the vehicle.Be cautious about where you store house keys if they are attached to vehicle keys.Park Safely Park in well-lit, busy areas whenever possible.At home, use a garage if available.If parking on a driveway, position the vehicle to make it harder to steal.Consider installing motion-activated lighting and CCTV around your property.Protect Against Tool and Van Theft Remove tools and equipment from vans overnight where possible.Use secure toolboxes and security locks.Mark valuable property with a unique identifier and keep records of serial numbers.Consider tracking devices for high-value items.Be Vigilant Report suspicious behaviour around vehicles to the police.Look out for neighbours and encourage them to secure their vehicles.If you notice signs of tampering, report it immediately and avoid touching potential evidence.If Your Vehicle Is Stolen or Broken Into Report the incident to the police as soon as possible.Contact your insurance company promptly.If the vehicle has a tracking system, notify the monitoring provider immediately.Cancel any stolen bank cards or devices left in the vehicle. |
